2012 – End of the world is an upcoming American disaster science fiction Hollywood movie which is based on a Mayan belief that the world will end in 2012. It will be directed by Roland Emmerich. It stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures. The film is scheduled to release on 13th November, 2009.
The film is inspired by the several hypotheses that state the ancient Mayans predicted a doomsday event will occur sometime around the 2012 winter solstice. According to the Mayan calendar, the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012.
